Summer Reading Challenge 2026

We serve an incredible number of Summer Reading Challenge (SRC) participants for a community our size, with 3,738 participants in 2025.

We are a community of readers of all ages, and engaging them through Summer Reading is one of our largest and most meaningful projects. Though serving all readers is important, our primary purpose is to keep children reading for fun through the summer to help them maintain reading levels and slow the “summer slide” by encouraging reading every day. We could not offer such a successful program without the generosity of local sponsors.

How Can You Participate?

We gratefully accept monetary or in-kind donations. Your donations allow us to provide robust programs and events throughout the summer and prizes to participants to motivate them to participate and continue reading all summer.

In-Kind Donations

In addition to the milestone prizes, the Library offers several raffles and grand prizes. Many different in-kind donations make up these prizes.

• Gift Cards for Raffle Prizes
• Milestone Prizes

The Louisville Public Library awards prizes to all participants for reading 10, 20, and 30 days throughout the summer. These milestone prizes can include passes and coupons to local businesses, small prizes, and entries to win grand prize raffles. With over 3000 participants, many of our prizes need to be available in large quantities.
